Matt McManus is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Cybersecurity practice and is based in New York. He has 15 years of experience in cybersecurity, privacy, consulting, and program management across a range of service areas and industries. He maintains expertise in leading complex investigations, crisis and incident response efforts, regulatory compliance assessments and responses to regulatory actions, program design and maturity, and litigation support.
At FTI Consulting, Mr. McManus leads teams in both cybersecurity and privacy matters, conducting complex investigations, including into trade secret theft and insider risk, as well as online disinformation and smear campaigns, and has helped clients navigate through crises by engaging with federal law enforcement. He coordinates incident response and forensic investigation efforts, serving in an incident command capacity, aggregating and disseminating relevant information, determining priorities, and making efforts towards eradication, remediation, and root-cause analysis.
Mr. McManus leads regulatory focused assessments, in the role of an independent assessor approved by regulatory bodies or at the behest of clients looking to demonstrate their adherence with cybersecurity frameworks, best practices, and regulatory requirements. His regulatory expertise spans multiple regulatory and trade bodies, and he leverages all major industry cybersecurity frameworks. Mr. McManus supports expert witness testimony for clients, facilitating technical investigations and analyses and aiding in the determination of expert opinions. Additionally, he advises on cybersecurity and privacy program development in the private equity space, supporting large and small-scale enterprises, and high-net-worth individuals.
Mr. McManus has worked with clients that operate on a multi-national scale, as well as individual high-profile clients who are themselves directly targeted by cyber threat actors. He maintains expertise working across technical, non-technical, and executive stakeholders alike, including end users, understanding engineering priorities, distilling technical forensic observations into meaningful exhibits, and working with law enforcement, outside counsel, and insurance providers.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. McManus served as a Senior Program Manager on WeWork’s information security team and privacy working group, and as a project manager for Planned Parenthood’s national information security program. Mr. McManus also has previous consulting experience as an implementation and security lead for Epic, where he worked with over a dozen nationally recognized healthcare organizations and incorporated EMR security into hospital information security programs.
Mr. McManus holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Notre Dame. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and holds multiple technical security certifications. Mr. McManus has co-authored multiple security-related thought leadership pieces, including those featured in Security Magazine and JD Supra.
