Mr. Hertel is a Managing Director with FTI Consulting’s Cybersecurity practice, based in Frankfurt, Germany. He has more than a decade of experience helping clients solve interdisciplinary forensic technology cases. His experience spans the fields of digital forensics and incident response (DFIR), cybersecurity readiness, eDiscovery, mobile forensics, and investigations.
Before joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Hertel was a Managing Director at a global advisory and expert services firm, after spending several years on the forensic technology team at a Big Four consulting firm. He has led and conducted numerous digital forensic investigations to resolve data leaks, intellectual property theft, fraud, embezzlement of company funds, and other areas of crime and misconduct. He has managed cyber incident readiness and response projects, including an advanced persistent threat (APT) case over nine months at a global company in the tourism industry in Germany.
Mr. Hertel has collaborated with major global organizations and law enforcement agencies, including the German Federal Police Office (BKA) and the State Criminal Investigation Office (LKA). His experience includes a key role in what was then the largest fraud case in Germany, where he processed hundreds of digital evidence in cooperation with the public prosecutor’s office.
Mr. Hertel holds a GIAC Security Leadership Certification (GSLC). He was recently ranked in Lexology Index’s Recommended list for Data – Data Experts 2025 for the third consecutive year.
