Eric Humbert is a Senior Director in FTI Consulting’s Cybersecurity practice and is based in New York. Mr. Humbert has more than 15 years of experience conducting and leading technical personnel involved in complex cyber investigations and providing analytical solutions, data analytics, DevOps, digital forensics, cryptocurrency analysis, and cyber risk assessments for cyber threat investigations.
At FTI Consulting, Mr. Humbert leads teams that perform complex cybersecurity incident response and subsequent investigations, ensuring cybersecurity readiness and resilience against sophisticated cyberattacks. He also conducts and leads teams providing ransomware negotiations with threat actors. In one ransomware matter, Mr. Humbert led the workstream that negotiated with the threat actor and recovered the cryptographic key from the threat actor. In addition, he led another ransomware workstream to identify all data exfiltrated by the threat actor and locate the source data across the client’s enterprise.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Humbert served 26 years as a Special Agent in the Washington D.C., Minneapolis, and New York field offices of the U.S. Secret Service. During his tenure, Mr. Humbert led and conducted a myriad of complex cyber investigations throughout the financial, public, and retail sectors to include: data breach incident response and mitigation; cryptocurrency fraud; ransomware extortion schemes; cyber-enabled criminal activities of transnational organized crime; theft of financial instruments; and proprietary data and PII. He is co-author of the “Cryptocurrency Forensic Triage and the Criminal Use of Cryptocurrencies” training adopted by the U.S. Department of State International Law Enforcement Academies (ILEA) and has lectured on the subject internationally.
Mr. Humbert’s multidisciplinary experience also includes: risk assessments of networked critical infrastructure; subject matter expertise in digital forensic testimony; technical advisor on advanced analysis and cyber collection operations; management of systematic intelligence and evidence collection capabilities; research and testing of cyber exploitation tools and specialized software; and development and implementation of data aggregation and analytical platforms.
Mr. Humbert holds certifications in Digital Evidence Recovery and Mobile Device Forensics from the United States Secret Service.
