
Courtney Klein is a Senior Director in the Cybersecurity practice at FTI Consulting, based in New York. She has more than 10 years of experience in cybersecurity and privacy assessments, complex investigations, and project management. She assists on a broad range of cybersecurity matters, including transaction related diligence, cybersecurity and privacy assessments, privacy program development and operation, investigations, and strategic planning.
AT FTI Consulting, Ms. Klein is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of client engagements, supporting clients with regulatory assessments and requirements, conducting cybersecurity and privacy maturity assessments against best practice frameworks, providing operational support for privacy and security programs, and coordinating and maintaining client relationships.
Ms. Klein conducts cybersecurity program assessments to identify company maturity, risks, and gaps. This includes analysis of companies’ programs against frameworks and best practices (CIS, NIST CSF, ISO 27001, FFIEC). Ms. Klein has supported assessments for regulatory agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Notably, Ms. Klein was part of a team that conducted a large-scale IT program assessment for a multinational financial institution, as well as the team that conducted a privacy and security program assessment for a multinational social media company. Ms. Klein is a key cybersecurity partner for private equity and firms in the financial sector globally. She has supported organizations with pre-close cybersecurity due diligence, post-close remediation, carve-out planning and execution, and portfolio company assessments and management.
Ms. Klein has served as a key stakeholder within a large technology company’s privacy program. She has led teams managing privacy concerns in the third-party risk management space and supporting cross-functional assessment and maturity efforts. Ms. Klein advises her clients on these complex topics and provides critical insight and best practices for managing and maintaining security and privacy compliance programs.
Ms. Klein also has extensive experience in open source research and analysis and has attended several courses related to open source intelligence. She has been involved in several cases aimed at identifying real personas behind malicious activity via open source means, including social media and domain registration.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Ms. Klein served as a program manager and advisor to the senior leadership of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Cyber Division. At the FBI, Ms. Klein was responsible for operations, strategic planning, and external outreach. This included managing the FBI’s presence at conferences, preparing leadership to speak at cyber-related events and for Capitol Hill hearings/briefings, and serving as the point-of-contact for the FBI’s messaging on cyber topics and cases.
Ms. Klein holds a bachelor’s degree in science, technology, and international affairs, with a concentration in security and a certificate in Latin American studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (SFS).
