SITUATION
FTI Cybersecurity was retained by a high-profile research company to investigate a possible insider threat and preserve evidence in the event litigation occurred related to the suspected employee. Targeting by competitors, foreign nations, and insiders is a constant concern for the company, as intellectual property is its primary product, so the company entered a long-term service agreement with FTI Cybersecurity for ongoing, timely review and preservation of departing employees’ digital media to support its insider threat program’s objectives.
OUR ROLE
FTI Cybersecurity’s national security investigators with experience in nation-state espionage conducted the investigation. The experts leveraged their knowledge of foreign nations to find evidence of unauthorized access and external transfers of data. These findings supported security and contractual violations by the employee, legally justifying the termination and setting the foundation for future legal action by the company.
