Mike Smith is a Senior Director in FTI Consulting’s Cybersecurity practice and is based in Wayne, PA. Mr. Smith has more than 10 years of experience in cybersecurity with strong expertise in vulnerability assessments, security control frameworks, cybersecurity policy and compliance, cyber blue team defenses, and developing and implementing effective cybersecurity strategy.
At FTI Consulting, Mr. Smith leads global efforts in assessing cybersecurity risk and ensuring cybersecurity readiness against sophisticated cyber attacks in a variety of industries. Mr. Smith actively works to identify areas of maturity in clients’ cybersecurity programs and develops and implements strategic roadmaps that allows clients to succeed and thrive in cybersecurity. Mr. Smith views cybersecurity as a business enabler and consistently strives to deliver high value and quality under challenging circumstances.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Smith served as a Cybersecurity Manager at Lockheed Martin Corporation. In his role as a Cybersecurity Manager, Mr. Smith was the principal advisor to overseeing cybersecurity risk management and system authorizations for select Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD) information systems. Mr. Smith routinely led and conducted cybersecurity assessments, while heavily focusing on mitigating insider threat risks. Mr. Smith worked diligently with various U.S. Government agencies to define and implement various cybersecurity strategies that were conducive to reducing risk and staying within program financial budgets. Additionally, Mr. Smith led and developed junior staff members into well-rounded cybersecurity professionals.
Before obtaining his role as a Cybersecurity Manager at Lockheed Martin Corporation, Mr. Smith worked at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as a Cyber Security Officer. At the CIA, Mr. Smith led and conducted complex cyber blue team assessments. He routinely briefed Agency executive team members to include the Chief Information System Security Officer (CISO), Chief Information Officer (CIO), and the Inspector General, on assessment findings, results, and corrective actions. Mr. Smith was also the recipient of two exceptional performance awards during his time at the Agency.
