Katie Hanifin is a Senior Director in FTI Consulting’s Strategic Communications segment and is based in Washington, D.C. Ms. Hanifin has more than a decade of experience in strategic communications and management consulting, and specializes in managing communications around sensitive cybersecurity incidents and government investigations.
Over the course of her career, she has helped a wide range of clients – from Fortune 100 companies and government agencies to trade associations and non-profits – tackle complex challenges impacting their reputation and operations.
At FTI Consulting, Ms. Hanifin helps clients develop and execute cyber incident preparedness and response communications plans, and engage with the media and other stakeholders on cyber matters. She also specializes in running global advocacy campaigns, and managing integrated communications and stakeholder engagement strategies to advance business objectives and mitigate risk.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, she was as a management consultant at Accenture, where she designed and executed communications programs for clients, including Cisco Systems and Levi Strauss & Co. In this capacity, she managed global communications strategies to support large-scale organizational initiatives that affected multiple geographies, corporate functions, and partners.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Hanifin was a consultant for the Republic of Georgia where she supported a global communications campaign and wrote a weekly newsletter. She has also spent three years working in communications and program management for U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services. Her innovative strategy for assessing regional operational risk and communicating security policies became a national model and new standard for the organization.
Ms. Hanifin received a Master of Public Policy (MPP) from Pepperdine University School of Public Policy and holds a bachelor’s degree in Global Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is also conversant in Russian.
