
Enrique Alvarez is a Managing Director in FTI Consulting’s Cybersecurity practice and is based in San Francisco. He is a cybersecurity expert with more than 20 years of national security and law enforcement experience across the private and federal sectors, assisting organizations with cybersecurity investigations, incident response, and cyber preparedness and strategy.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Mr. Alvarez served as a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent in the Cyber branch of the San Francisco Field Office. He led a complex, multi-agency investigative team focused on the national security threat posed by the proliferation of cyber exploits. Mr. Alvarez joined the FBI as a Special Agent in 2002. His frontline FBI leadership roles include Supervisory Special Agent in the Counterintelligence branch; Supervisory Special Agent in the Cyber branch; and Acting Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Cyber branch, leading a large team comprised of five cyber investigative squads at FBI San Francisco, responsible for both criminal and national security cyber investigations.
Prior to the FBI, Mr. Alvarez received a Direct Commission as a Navy Intelligence Officer, serving in both the reserve and active components. Mr. Alvarez served a one-year combat zone tour of duty in Iraq, supporting Multi-National Force Iraq between 2007-2008. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation (two awards), and Navy Achievement Medal (four awards). Mr. Alvarez retired from the Navy in 2012 with the rank of commander (O-5).
Mr. Alvarez also has previous experience at various Internet companies in San Francisco, focusing on technical requirements and product management with Military.com, NBC Internet, Quokka Sports, and Ikonic Interactive.
Mr. Alvarez earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stanford University in International Relations and a Master of Arts Degree from the Navy Postgraduate School in National Security Affairs. Throughout his career in both the public and private sectors, Mr. Alvarez immersed himself in leadership opportunities at every stage while also identifying and mentoring the next generation of leaders through formal and informal mentoring programs.
