If history is a guide, inevitably the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan will be the target of cyber attacks. The most likely adversaries are nation-state actors aiming to embarrass Japan on the world’s stage, to cause panic and confusion, to help aid a political goal, or to conduct espionage. In this article, Head of Cybersecurity for the Asia-Pacific region Kyung Kim draws on his experience protecting the 2018 Winter Olympic Games as former head (Legal Attaché) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, Korea.
